It's a new month, which means it's time for The Mixed Media Card Challenge #2! We're riding on the success of our first challenge and we hope you'll join us again this month. The theme is open to interpretation. Take your cue from the word, "summer". What does it make you think of? Be as messy or clean as you want to be...as long as you go beyond using just your inks and stamps!
HOW TO PLAY
1. Create a
mixed media CARD based on the theme, with or without the optional element.
2. Display the challenge graphic on your blog post and link back to this challenge post.
3. You may enter as many times as you want, as long as each entry is different.
4. You may combine a
maximum of 7 challenges (6 other challenges plus ours).
5. Submit your projects by August 25, 11:55 p.m. PDT (GMT -700).
6. We'll announce the winner and highlights on August 31.
So how did we interpret the theme? Take a look at the mixed media cards we created. We hope they inspire you!
Added three colors of distress paint to an embossing folder, laid watercolor paper inside and ran it through my Big Shot. Added distress paint to color the inside of roses. Shabbied up some burlap so the color would show through the wings.

A mixed media CAS one layer card that showcases depth created by masking and stamping and added textures created by modeling paste and burlap

Background first misted with light yellow colors, then partly covered with stenciled and embossed circles (using clear embossing powder). Then misted again, allowing paint to drip down the card front. Excess color wiped away from the embossed areas revealing the first background color. Flowers die-cut from burlap paper, center covered with a twisted canvas ribbon. Leaves die-cut from craft core cardstock, sanded, and inked.

Background painted with distress stains and stenciled with embossing paste. Colored bird and hat with distress stains, ink and pens. Stamped glass and sentiment on acetate with solvent ink, colored with Sharpie pens. Added burlap, stickles and gel pen accents.

Spread Gold Embossing paste over piece of burlap adds texture, then stenciled over it with ink. Layered die cuts of craft metals to add dimension.

Sponged distress inks for background, over-stamped for added interest and texture. Burlap with embossing paste, granular gel coated sun, shell and popped up sentiment adds dimension.

I used a few different colors of Dylusion Sprays in the background along with stencils and stamps. Then using a stencil and light modeling paste, I added the stars in the corners. The shells have stickles glitter.
