March Challenge Winner and Highlights

There were  70 beautiful spring-inspired mixed media cards were in the gallery in March! Thanks so much to everyone who played!

And now here are the highlights. The girls in the design team picked an entry to highlight. It's the entry that uniquely impacted us in some way -- a specific technique that was used, the colors, the creativity, or something in it that touched or impacted us.

Hint of Spring {More Inspiration}

White embossing paste through a Dot Fade stencil, gold embossing powder, adhered Tissue tape randomly over tag and swiped through 2 colors of Distress Acrylic paints and water, bird nest stamped and clear embossed, metal pieces and wishbone attached to tag. 



Die-cut, acrylic paints, translucent acrylics, embossing paste through stencil, brad.


Stamped and stickered cardbase, sloshed middle layer, heat embossed vellum, fabric tape, stitching.

{Hints of Spring #9} More Inspiration

Hi there. From most of the comments around blog land, it seems Spring has not yet arrived. I hope everyone is staying warm and making lots of cards!

Have you played along with this month's challenge yet? The theme is 'A Hint of Spring' with the optional element being *Bird*. We have a few more cards to give you some inspiration.

The Mixed Media Card Challenge #9 {Hints of Spring}

Goodbye, February. Hello, March! Are you ready for a new mixed media card challenge theme? For March, our theme is "SPRING". Show us your spring-themed works of art -- we'd love to see them! "Bird" is an optional element.


HOW TO PLAY
1. Create a mixed media CARD based on the theme, with or without the optional element.
2. Display the challenge graphic on your blog post and link back to this challenge post.
3. You may enter as many times as you want, as long as each entry is different.
4. You may combine a maximum of 7 challenges (6 other challenges plus ours).
5. Submit your projects by March 25, 11:55 p.m. PST (GMT -8).
6. We'll announce the winner and highlights on March 31.


How did we interpret the theme? Take a look below. We hope our mixed media cards inspire you to play along with us! We look forward to seeing your beautiful cards!


I watercolored the background and embossed with a wood grain stamp and various other stamps with white embossing powder. The heart is done the same way and the bird is watercolored.

Brusho watercolour background mixed with shimmer paint, then sponged over top with a leafy stencil. Die-cut branch and leaves which are sponged and shaped with stylus for dimension.

Stamped and stenciled backgrounds and sentiment. Embossing paste. Heat embossing on vellum. Distressed edges.

Rubbed card base through Distress Stains and water, sponged Distress Inks through Dot Fade stencil, flicked with water, embossed layered sun die and bunny die, used a rub-on bird.

Textured patterned paper paired with spring field of poppies created by masking and coloring makes for my Mixed media card.
*****

Stamped image, masked with masking fluid before watercolouring and stamping the background.
*****

Pink Distress Stain on the background to create a faux watercolor effect. Some partial stamping with grey dye ink, Glimmer Glaze splatters in pink, an old sticker, some wood veneer birdies and tiny leftover paper hearts here and there. In addition doodled frame with a grey pen.

Watercolour paper with distress ink background, stamping, stencilling, 
Twinkling H2os and machine stitching.

Small bits of pink tissue, paints, texture paste through stencil, stamping, clear gesso, more paints and stamping in that order to create the background.

Background-smooshed distress stains and dry embossing with Gold lame accents. Butterfly embossed with distress inks. Accented with Inka Gold and Mica Gloss and gold foil.

Acrylic paints, chalk paints, gelli print, modelling paste through stencil, black and white pens on bird.

Gelato watercolour with salt background with Gelato watercolour bird fussy cut and pop dotted
